It can be very empowering for kids to help out in the kitchen. They love the independence they feel when they're able to make something themselves -- especially when it tastes good!

Here are some desserts that kids can make for the whole family -- all by themselves!

1. Ice Cream Sundae Bar -- Kids can set out different flavors of ice cream, favorite toppings like sprinkles, candy, fruit, different flavors of syrup and maraschino cherries. Everyone can serve themselves, or, even better, the kids can stand behind the counter and take orders. They'll feel like they're working at their favorite ice cream shop!

2. No-heat-needed graham cracker desserts -- Everyone loves s'mores and cheesecake, but you're probably not anxious to have your kids using the oven and melting marshmallows. Instead, get the same flavors by letting your kids make a base of graham crackers, or store-bought mini-graham cracker crusts. For a cheesecake taste, they can add a spoonful of store-bought cream cheese frosting, and add some strawberries on top. For a s'more taste, they can dollop some marshmallow creme on the graham cracker, and sprinkle milk chocolate chips on top.

3. Candy Bar -- no, not a Snickers or a Kit Kat, although they can definitely make an appearance in this dessert. This is the buffet type of bar. Let the kids pick out several different types of candy (Make sure the whole family's favorites are included!), and the kids can go to town using pretty bowls and utensils to display a candy wonderland on the table after dinner has been cleared away. Everyone can help themselves!
