The nationwide Independent Bookstore Day celebration was started two years ago by California indie bookstores. Now, more than 400 are participating, including Boswell Books in Milwaukee and Books & Company in Oconomowoc.

Both stores will host special activities and sell limited-edition items, including a Neil Gaiman coloring book, a 'Read with Me' Curious George plush toy, Anthony Bourdain's 'Perfect Burger Print' and a booklet with three essays by Ann Patchett.
