Wisconsin is filled with seasonal destinations, and as we turn the corner into May, many of these family favorites are preparing for their 2016 opening days.


Bay Beach Amusement Park

Worth the trip north, especially if you have younger children. This amusement park features several rides, including a boat ride, bumper cars, chairplane, a giant slide, Ferris Wheel and The Zippin Pippin Roller Coaster.

Opening day: May 7

Location: 1313 Bay Beach Rd., Green Bay

Cost: No admission fee. Free parking. Ride tickets are 25 cents, with most rides requiring one or two tickets per rider. The Zippin Pippin Roller Coaster requires four tickets.

Bookworm Gardens

A Metroparent favorite! This children's garden combines literature and nature into a fun family outing.

Opening day: May 1

East Troy Electric Railroad

Take a train ride on the last 7.5 mile stretch of the original inter-urban system in Wisconsin. Themed-train rides include: pizza trains, burger + beer, Viva la Mexico and more.

Opening day: April 30

Location: Pick up the train at the East Troy Depot, Elegant Farmer or Indian Head Park in Mukwonago.

Cost: $12.50/adults, $8/child ages 3-14 and free for ages 2 and younger. Themed train rides cost extra.

The Carousel at Ella's Deli

This kosher-style deli and ice cream parlor features an outdoor 1927 C.W. Parker carousel.

Opening day: Now open! (Opened in March)

Holy Hill Scenic Tower

The Scenic Tower is 192 feet from its base to the tip of its spire. Climb 178 stairs for an amazing view of the Kettle Moraine area.

Lake Express Ferry

Ride this high-speed ferry across Lake Michigan to Muskegon and back. The trip takes 2 1/2 hours.

Opening day: April 29

Location: 2330 S. Lincoln Memorial Drive, Milwaukee

Cost: Kids ages 5 to 17 ride free from June 15-Aug. 31. Kids 4 and younger always ride free. Adult tickets vary depending on whether you are taking a vehicle. $87.50-$182.

Little Amerrika Amusement Park

Ideal for young families, the spot features 26 rides and attractions, including a 1950s wooden roller coaster, The Meteor.

Opening day: May 28

Location: 700 E. Main St., Marshall

Cost: No general admission. Single ride tickets are $1.50 each. Wristbands available for unlimited riding for $10.95-$21.95. Free parking.

Northpoint Custard

Some of the best custard around! Plus, enjoy a burger, the lake and fried cheese curds, too.

Opening day: May 21 (The first 150 guests on opening day will receive a free hamburger!)
