A new aquarium exhibit that features colorful freshwater species from around the world will open Saturday, Feb. 13 at Discovery World.
Poison dart frogs, red-bellied piranha, African lungfishes and Axolotl are a few of the species visitors can see and learn about in the new exhibit, which is part of the Reiman Aquarium and will make its debut during a celebration from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. called Love Your Great Lakes.
During the event, which is presented by Fund for Lake Michigan, families can participate in hands-on activities, play games, meet some cold-blooded animals and learn through a variety of interactive programming provided by organizations, including UWM's School of Freshwater Sciences, Mequon Nature Preserve and Stormwater Solutions Engineering.
"We are thrilled to host this educational and fun Great Lakes event alongside our friends from Fund for Lake Michigan," said Discovery World CEO Joel Brennan. "Through events like this one, our entire community can come to better understand the value of our precious freshwater resources both now and into the future. We hope 'Love Your Great Lakes' will provide a fun and interactive way to educate and inspire the next generation of freshwater stewards and innovators."
Discovery World is located at 500 N. Harbor Dr., Milwaukee. Admission is $18/adult, $14/child 3-17 and free for children under age 3. For more information, visit discoveryworld.org.
